Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

This AP story on the UNSC resolution is remarkably honest. I like two things best: 1) the story openly states that Russia has been objecting solely from craven self-interest. 2) the story describes how there are "no hidden triggers" and the trigger that is right there in the open.

A Political SAT question

George Ryan is to the Illinois electorate as __________ is to the US electorate.

A. George W. Bush
B. George H. W. Bush
C. Bill Clinton
D. Josef Stalin

The answer, of course, is C, Bill Clinton. They both embody everything that voters are sick to death of. Now we shall see if Illinois Republicans and the DNC can level the ruins and build something worthwhile in their places. I'm not optimistic in either case.

Say What?

In Baghdad, Saddam said: "If these two American and British administrations are able to achieve their wishes, the world will revert to a new law, which is the law of evil based on power and opportunity rather than the law of love and justice."

This is from a Reuters story. Had I been drinking something as I read this, I would have spewed. The "law of love and justice?" It's hard for me to believe that Saddam's mouth can even form those words.

Madigan Speech

The People want Change, blah blah blah, right to choose, blah blah, sensible gun laws, blah blah, working families, the disabled, and consumers(?) blah blah blah blah blah.

Nothing about Dad's arm-twisting yet.

Birkett Speech

He's on WLS now, he's called Lisa Madigan: "Congratulations Lisa, you're a prosecutor now!"

Here's the New Boss

Governor-elect Rod is at Finkel Steel quoting Elvis lyrics and making the following promises:

- creating new jobs

- raising the minimum wage

- passing "wage equity" for women

- addressing the 2.5 billion-dollar budget deficit through some form of alternative arithmetic

He may actually believe that all of these things are possible and in the public's best interest, but I doubt it.

Peter Fitzgerald on Birkett

He says Birkett is tied in suburban Cook County, so the race for Attorney General in Illinois remains alive.

Where Are They Now?

Carol Moseley-Braun is on WLS right now. She is delighted but cautious about the Blagojevich call. The interviewers tried to get her to declare for Senate in 2004, but she wouldn't. They asked about how tough DC was, and she said that "at the end of the day, it's worth it, because it's the people's business."

I know I got a lot out of her dalliances with Nigerian criminals on her junkets to Africa.

Big Announcement

Someone gushing about Lisa Madigan on WLS said something that sounded for all the world like "she's knocked up." I didn't quite catch the actual explanation because the commentators were giggling too much.

Spoons explains why Illinoisans are morons. I jumped on the comments, but now I'm blogging, just for grins. I'm hearing on WLS that the Blago crowd at Finkel Steel is loving it, with about a third of precincts reporting.

Bad Election News, Part II

WLS called the election for former top advisor to "the President" (the ads don't name which one) Rahm Emanuel.

Bad Election News, Part I

Fox has called Illinois governor for Blagojevich.
