Iraq Casualties Update (through 18 August)

Hostile fire fatalties, by week, through 8/18/05. There was a spike around the first week of August, which turns out to be part of Operation Quick Strike in western Iraq. A number of Marine Reservists from Ohio were killed during that week. Fortunately, it appears that spike was not part of an adverse trend, as fatality counts have returned to their long-term average of about 14 per week.
